Contemporary
folk artist, Ted Nichols, lives in Maryland, where he finds a way of life that
enhances his art. His artwork is reminiscent of popular American art of the
18th and 19th centuries. Often pieces are whimsical or humorous, with animals
and people placed in amusing poses and situations.
Ted started furniture making and carving in 1979. He became a full-time
artisan in 1985 when his business became Noah's Ark. All of Ted's carvings
are original designs inspired from nature, fairy tales, history and biblical
scenes. Each piece is signed and dated. One-of-a-kind, special commission
and limited edition pieces are available. His most popular items include Noah's
Ark, chess sets, barnyard animals, cats, dogs, canes and Santas.
Ted's works are publicized in numerous magazines and books: Early
Home Life, Country Living, Wood Shop News, Washington Post and Country
Home. Various craft stores, art galleries and museums in the United
States, Canada and England display Ted's carvings.
Ted attends numerous shows throughout the year and offers carving seminars
for instruction and demonstration. Visit the schedule
